Web Security Statement
As of December 17, 2015, the City of Redmond websites are operating with updated security protocols. To view them it might be necessary to have certain settings selected in your browser, especially if it is an older version.

Technical background

Browsers need to be able to use
TLS 1.1 and 1.2.

We are no longer using the older SSL 3.0 encryption protocol. In addition, we have removed the ability to use another older protocol, TLS v1.0, because it no longer meets the definition of strong cryptography. (Note: some websites still allow one or both older protocols, but you will need to enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2 for our sites.)

Example instructions

You can update security settings in Internet Explorer 11 by modifying the Advanced Security settings to enable TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2.

Select this link to view/print instructions with more images.

1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options. If you do not see a Tools menu, press the [alt] key and you will then see the menu.

2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

3. In the Security category, check ‘Use TLS 1.1, and Use TLS 1.2’ as shown below.

Note: It is important to check consecutive versions. Not selecting consecutive versions (e.g. checking TLS 1.0 and 1.2, but not checking 1.1) could result in connection errors.
