City proposed zoning code amendments related to Public Art developed by Private Developers

Over the last several years, the City has encouraged the private sector to play a more significant role in place-making through the provision of public art in private developments. Setting up the program procedures and legislation will take most of 2019 -- with public engagement opportunities in April at the on-set of the project to discuss options, and later in the fall to vet the final proposal. The City is seeking input from all community members, as well as developers and artists doing business or interested in doing business in Redmond.

In the meantime, the City has implemented an interim procedure that is currently being used by developers to develop public art projects. These projects are helping the City and developers evaluate ways to improve the process further.

Public Engagement Opportunities in April 2019

Several in-person group discussions, an online presentation and poll, and opportunities to meet with staff one on one are being provided in April to better understand the community’s thoughts about the definition of public art, the process for reviewing privately developed public art, and how best to administer the in-lieu fund for public art.

Please join one of the group meetings for an in-person discussion at Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village, Room 206 on:

April 15, 6:30 to 8:00 PM
April 16, 7:30 to 9:00 AM
April 19, 11:30 to 1:00 PM

The Redmond Arts and Culture Commission will hold a Special Meeting to discuss this topic on April 17, 2019 at 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Redmond City Hall, Conference Room 130.  The public is welcome to attend and provide up to three minutes of comments at the start of the meeting and listen to the proceedings.
