Redmond celebrates the 74th Annual Derby Days Summer Festival on Friday, July 11th from 5:00-10:00 pm, and Saturday, July 12th from 10:00 am-10:00 pm at Redmond City Hall Campus (15670 NE 85th Street).
Tech Friday Night kicks-off the City’s biggest summer festival with headliner, Hit Explosion. The opening act, Red Jacket Mine, will have everyone ready for a night of dancing. Food vendors and the busy beer and wine garden provide an ideal spot for both people and band watching. After the concert, the public can enjoy the movie Ironman 3 from 10:00 pm to midnight on the Great Lawn, behind City Hall, presented by the Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee (RYPAC). Carnival rides and games will be available again this year and are at the City Hall Campus Park and Ride on 160th Avenue NE from 5:00 pm-10:00 pm Friday.
Saturday proves to be a fun-filled day as well, with events beginning at 8:00 am at the Redmond Fire Department Pancake Breakfast (Station 11 - 8450 161st Ave NE). The breakfast is free; donations are accepted with proceeds benefiting the Redmond Firefighters Benevolent Fund. At 9:00 am, the Derby Dash 5K run/walk sponsored by rundoctor.com begins and ends at the Redmond Downtown Park (16101 Redmond Way). Race registration begins at 7:45 am and proceeds benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Everyone loves a parade and the Ben Franklin Kids Parade, is one of the nation’s largest kid’s parades, and begins at 10:00 am. Children and families decorate their “wheels” and themselves. Parade registration begins at 8:30 am at the Old Redmond Post Office (16135 NE 85th Street). Arriving early is strongly recommended. Immediately following the Kids Parade is the Grand Parade, led this year by Grand Marshal Shannon O’Donnell, KOMO4 meteorologist and a Redmond High alumnus.
The beer and wine garden opens at Noon on Saturday. The Swedish Medical Center Criterium, the nation’s longest running bicycle race, starts at 1:15pm with the last race at 7:00pm. Saturday’s entertainment schedule on the Main Stage includes:
Noon Pearl Django – Traditional jazz classics and original compositions
1:30 pm Bill Robison – Family Friendly Comedy
2:30 pm Recess Monkey – Family Friendly music
4:00 pm Lilla – Soul Jazz
6:00 pm Tubaluba – Vintage Soul Brass

Children’s activities run from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Saturday including bouncy houses, the Cadman Sand Box, a climbing wall, sprinklers, and wax hand molds. Carnival rides return from 10:00 am-10:00 pm. “This year promises to be another successful event with long running traditions blended with new and improved attractions,” stated Lisa Rhodes, events and marketing administrator for the City of Redmond. “We have a terrific line-up of free entertainment for all ages,” she adds.
Parking is available at the City Hall Parking Garage, Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, and Redmond Town Center. A free shuttle runs on Saturday only between parking sites from 9:00 am to 10:30pm.
